Hi,

I recently purchased this Wolseley sheep shearing drive unit from Fleabay:

Does anyone have any information on this unit? What sort of age is this likely to be?

Many Thanks

HI,I bought the other one he was selling on ebay yesterday.I unfortunately missed the one you bought which is actually the one I needed as it is driven on the other side and would have gone together with the other one I have to make a pair but such is life.I have not had time to plough through my Wolseley literature to date it but my guess is about 1930 ish. It is a friction drive on the flywheel of an engine and works very well,my one is coupled to my horizontal open crank Wolseley and always attracts interest when I set it going and offer free haircuts to passing punters at rallies. If I manage to dig up any more info I will e-mail you.

Kenny Williams, the wild and Woolseley scotsman.

ps I am on the lookout for a cable drive and handpiece for a Wolsleley sheep shearer if any of you have anything kicking about you would like to sell.

Hi,

Thanks for the info, I had tried to research it but couldn't find anything! I'm afraid I can't help with the cable drive and hand piece, I have a Lister one on a different set-up (which doesn't suit unfortunately) but I'm also looking for a Wolseley one to go with this.

Many Thanks

Andrew

I dunno, Wolseley shearing kit's been obsolete for a loooong time and spares are now non-existant. I think Dad got some of the last of the flexible droppers to be sold in the UK and it must be nearly 20 years since he sold them. Handpieces are as rare as rocking horse leavings now too (most folks scrapped them when they couldn't be repaired any more)... You might be able to adapt it to take lister fittings, but it may mean remachining some parts...

Cheers, Scruff.
