Express models

Hi, Anyone else been having problems with Express Models of late? Ordered some items 3 weeks ago via web and bar the acknowledgement message auto generated straight after, have heard nothing ? Tried e-mailing them twice with the "inform me when received or read" on, but no return message and no replies ?

Very odd as they have always been very quick and I wanted the items for this weekend for an exhibition. looks like the layout is going without now !

Thanks DH ! (Chris ?)

Be nice if they would have got back in touch with me like. Maybe I will give them a call ? It says on their site that goods are dispatched within 7 days. On Thursday it will be 21, and after 2 e-mails and no reply, I find it very odd!

You're lucky. In August 2005 I ordered several items of which (to be fair) were promptly delivered. Unfortunately, the class 40 headlights were not set at the correct spacing for my model. I rang Express Models and was asked to send them back for 'adjustment'. This I did and despite repeated telephone calls, emails etc. I still have not got them back - well over a year!!! I've now given up expecting to see them (the lights) again. It's put me off ordering any more stuff from them which is a shame as I'd like a lot more lights for my locos.

Potter - Give them a call. Maybe there has been a "human error" and they just forgot ?

I fitted the class 20 lights in a little over 2 hours, which included changing the plug on my decoder (change of harness)

My brother in law ( bless him ) visited ' Express models ' today.

He says its a domestic house and run by " three women in their late

40's ". The one who answered the door was "abrupt" !

First he asked if they had a catalogue ? YES =A33

Next he asked if was up to date ? NO but we are due to have a new one printed just prior or just after Christmas.

Was their web site up to date ? NO but more up to date than the current catalogue .... BUT IT WAS FREE !

I don't know if this helps but ?

Not surprised.

I run a mail order business (nothing to do with railways) and my home address is the correspondence address of it.

The clue is in the "Mail Order" bit: it is not a retail shop, and I often have domestic things going on that I would not want to stop for a customer!

Do I need to contact work and have a non domestic crime number issued by your local force ?? :-)

Thanks to all... The said parts arrived last week and are now fitted (see crammed!) under the Class 20 body !

Hi Brian

I accept your comments BUT, with all due respect, if I were in your position I would be more troubled about the concerns regarding late / non delivery of ordered items.

The originator of the question appears to have had good experience with you in the past and asked for help. For all he knew you could have closed up 'shop' !

Just pleased to hear the goods have arrived !

Brian has nothing to do with the firm in question. He was merely quoting his own experience as the owner of a mail order business.

See Kim's reply - I was just posting about people turning up on the doorstep of a correspondence address.

Sorry Brian, my mistake

I need to replace 'your' & 'you' with 'their' & 'them / they' :-)

I can fully understand wishing to keep customers 'separate' from the home front but I still feel the abrupt treatment my brother-in-law received was not good for their business ..... a simple and polite " sorry but we don't deal with customers on the doorstep " would have done.

Do you not agree that a good reputation, especially in this hobby, is of paramount importance ?

No offence taken.

Yes. That's more or less what I have explained to the occasional caller here.

In ANY hobby or business.

I think the fact that your brother-in-law turned up unannounced at someone's private address possibly means that he was entitled to any kind of reception that he might have received.

I think that basic respect for other people's privacy is of even greater importance.

No. He was on business and turned up at their advertised business address. Customers should always be treated courteously.

Then Express Models need to state explicitly on their website "No personal callers" which they do not seem to do at the moment.

I must in all fairness advise the group that both sets of 'missing' lights have turned up. Perhaps they read this NG?

Anyway, thanks Express Models.
