Heljan 2007 plans confirmed.

Have just received the following confirmation from Heljan of their 2007 releases. I believe the plans for 'Falcon' will only proceed if there is an encouraging number of advance orders which have to be received by Heljan before 28/2/07.

HELJAN NEW PRODUCT NEWS 2007/08

Heljan (Denmark) are pleased to announce their new product programme for

2007/08. The following 4mm models are currently under development and further announcements will be made as to projected availability and price.

4mm projected new releases

Clayton class 17 diesel-electric D8500-D8616 The 'Claytons' were unique amongst UK mainline diesel classes with a centre cab design. Despite the class having a limited life span with British Rail, mainly in the North East and Scotland, the interest in this class has always been maintained in modelling circles. Featuring in several modellers 'most wanted' polls their wishes have now been answered!

BR class 58 diesel-electric 58001-050 Given a new lease of life as 'hire' locos on the European mainland Heljan have given them a further lease of life in model form! Although a 'ready-to run' model of the class 58 does exist Heljan believe a market exists for a high quality version and aim to achieve just that. Both styles of bogie will be produced although the first releases will feature the later modified exhaust silencer. It is planned to produce the class in all its most popular liveries.

Brush class 53 prototype 'FALCON', diesel electric D0280/1200 A 'cult' locomotive still holding mythical status with enthusiasts despite its withdrawal by BR back in 1976. Built as prototype loco D0280 by Brush it was eventually taken into BR stock and renumbered D1200. This model is planned as a limited edition model and there will be limited numbers produced of each of three liveries 'FALCON' carried during its life. Customer/trade demand will dictate whether FALCON is placed in production. A 'pre-order' form will be issued and it is hoped enough orders are received to enable FALCON to go into production.

7mm projected new releases

Brush Type 4/class 47 Following the success of the 'O' gauge 'Hymek' WR diesel hydraulic Heljan announced plans for the ubiquitous class 47. Available in BR 2-tone green and BR rail blue liveries the first deliveries of this eagerly awaited model are expected early December 2006. These will be supplied un-numbered allowing the modeller to apply their own identity to the loco.

STOP PRESS!!! ANOTHER MAJOR 'O' BR DIESEL RELEASE!!! English Electric class 37 Yes, another 'top' diesel release from Heljan! The Heljan class 37 will be of the early 'split-headcode' variety, which should appeal to a wide variety of modellers given, this class's longevity!

They might as well scrap the idea for Falcon now then, who is going to commit to a model until they see how good it is? Might I suggest that, continuing the Scottish / NE theme they consider a DE NB type 2 (this would allow them to offer a DH NB type 2 using much of the same tooling).

You'd be surprised, anyway they already have a chassis unit (class 47/57) which is suitable for 'Falcon' and I assume that's why they are muting this option.

I was going to ask if you had a contact address for expressions of interest, but if your comment above is accurate, it's a non-starter for me!

Class47 bogie pivot centres = 37' 0" Class53 bogie pivot centres = 42' 0" Class47 bogie wheelbase = 7' 3" + 7' 3" Class53 bogie wheelbase = 7' 2" + 7' 9"

But OTOH Kestrel bogie pivot centres = 37' 0" And it soon lost its original bogies in favour of Class47 type...

Now I find that interesting, I might buy one just for the novelty factor, a diesel with character ... should look nice exchanging duties with the 2-4-

2T Round-top L&Y Tank engine I'm about to start building. :-)

Plus it was a million times better looking than Falcon.

I understand that if you buy any items from Howes of Oxford (Kidlington), they are asking for an indication of which version of Falcon you might be interested in. No deposits requested.

If you want one made, they, as UK Heljan agents, are the people to contact.

Churnet Valley Railway is running steam every Sunday in January. Don't forget the Great Marquess Weekend 13th & 14th January. "Wimblebury" will not be appearing but Ditcheat Manor and S160 5197 are likely and of course 61994 / 3442. Happy now Andy?

Hmm. I'd kind of absorbed that info previously, and visited the Howes website over Christmas, but couldn't see anything especially singing the praises of Heljan. I wanted to contact someone closer to the development team, as I have some material from Brush for this loco.

Cheers, Francis K.
