Er no, only around 40% of thiose who bothered to vote voted for his lot. Overall only about 25% of eligable voters voted for his lot.

But it never is. That was my point. If an item sells for $100 in the US it always sells for £100 in the UK.

Well yes, but we're all busy paint ourselves into very big corners - figure just the land value in the cities that will be threatened or lost with a 1/5/7metre rise in sea level. One metre being a reasonably conservative and accepted rise over the next 50 years - 7 m being a possible rise over the next 100 years.

It seems to be a not very good system - we've dropped it in NZ.

Perhaps you should query UK commercial practices!

they may have said they were going to be new tories but realised early on they would say anything just to get elected. What they intended to do was not known at the time - no change there then.

How wide open a target can you present ? But this is a nice group, so will refrain !

Named from mount Dun - which hopefully is in NZ.

Mt.Dunn? Climbed it but left the rocks where they were. Didn't know they weren't the same as all the other C.Otago/Canterbury rocks!

Harkers Petrology says Mt Dun. The others may be the same but you only want one 'type' (reference) locality.

It's a long climb - the extra letter helps while away the time! =8^) I thought they were schist!

I'll not be around to worry about it Greg, but I do realise that some people will.

Just a couple of points Kim, which I know do not totally explain the difference but they do have some bearing on the equation.

USA - prices are generally quoted before the addition of local sales tax.

UK - Price quoted generally includes VAT at 17½%.

Taxation [1] on businesses in the UK is also generally higher in the UK than in the USA, so it can be expected that margins have to be upped to take that into account.

[1] as are retail property prices etc.

We've managed to make it even worse in the USA with the "electoral college" - meaning for example that Bush lost the popular vote but still got elected because he won in a few very populated states.
