How much is really new as opposed to reworking of existing products? The Stanier 2-6-4t is just a rebodied Fowler but very welcome all the same. As for the rebuilt Scot and Patriot, mutton dressed as lamb.

Just from memory theres the sequence :- Fowler tank -> Stanier tank -> Fairburn tank -> Ivatt Tank -> standard tank

This is just the obvious development, but some say theres been nothing new in the development of the steam loco - except minor refinements - since

Rebuilt Scot and Patriot as "mutton dressed as lamb", are you in wind up mode or is it that you only like D&E ?

This is once again the year for the discerning modeller (there was the one with LMS Pacifics, then the Black 5 and 8F).

Only the body is new. The chassis is the same as the existing Fowler.

The Fairburn was 2-6-4t. The Ivatt was 2-6-2t.

It's a re-release of the old "Super Detail" models. You don't imagine Hornby have tooled completely new versions do you?

If they come out as tender drive (as modified from current Patriot and Airfix tooling - if theyve got it) then someone (JT) will have a field day !

OK, but it would have been :- Fowler tank -> Stanier tank -> Fairburn tank -> (Ivatt Tank - but he only had a couple of years and Fairburn Tank was most likely designed by or for Ivatt anyway) -> (Standard Tank - had Riddles not been such an excellent manager and let Brighton have some work).

If you with your contacts say who knows then presume even Bachmann dont !

Hornby have left the field open for bachmann to do parallel boilers, all Jubilees, all Claughtons and all prince of wales - so that should keep em busy till 2025.

The black 5 - best runner I've got, pulls everything in sight without problem. Crab is a good runner too, but thats a bit light on its feet - sure youre not thinking of that one ?
