London Model Railway Shops

Can anyone tell me if there are any model railway shops in central'ish London with a reasonable display of locos etc. There was one near Euston, I recall, that specialised in continental railways. The only one I can think of for sure is Hamleys.

There's the Ian Rice bookshop around the back of Waterloo, last time I looked they had quite a reasonable display of stock ... surprisingly their selection of books though wasn't all that to write home about.

Ian Allan at Lower Marsh- a little expensive, I find. Beyond them, I'm pushed to think of anywhere else in Central London. Brian

Iain Rice has bookshop now?

I wondered what he had been up to.

Gerard,

If your interests are UK 7mm scale, then Home of 0 Gauge in south London is very much worth a visit - extremely well stocked. there web site is

They are within easy walking distance of Raynes Park and Wimbledon Chase stations.

The business is changing hands in the spring and I believe the shop will be closed, so you would have to visit in the next month or so.

Ah yes!

So what has happened to Iain Rice? He was very big on the modelling scene at one time.

modelling scene

The last time I read an article by him was a few years ago in Model Railroader, about his latest Railroad layout design / concept.

Ex Beatties, and only stocks the most obvious of the model railway items from Bachmann/Hornby (like locomotives), and not a great deal of variety in the way of rolling stock, etc.

There basically aren't any model railway shops in central London now. Your nearest best bet (that I know of) is the Engine Shed in Leytonstone (Central Line eastwards for about 20-25 mins from Tottenham Court Road). It's a 'proper' model railway shop, though they do some other bits and pieces as well.

He still is! He exhibits fairly regularly, but mainly at the smaller specialist shows such as Scaleforum and RailWells. He's also a contributor to P4_talk occasionally.

OK, perhaps he doesn't have such a presence as he used to, but he's still around!
