(OT) Help Save 89001

I hope no one minds me posting this here....?

Help Save 89001

89001 is up for sale. We have until the 31st October to ensure that the loco is preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Although the locomotive is mostly complete, it has not been serviceable for a number of years, and many components would require extensive repairs. Estimates suggest that a hefty six-figure sum would be needed to restore the loco to main-line condition.

We have been custodian of the loco for much of the last two years, during which time our engineers have undertaken a thorough survey of the loco, and restored it to a condition where it is fit to travel by rail. We have the expertise to begin restoration to working order and are very well placed to ensure the loco's survival in preservation, joining our extensive fleet of first- and second-generation AC electric locos.

Obviously it is hard to estimate what other interest may be forthcoming from operators, but given the expenditure required for a rapid return to main line use, and its very restricted operational clearance, we anticipate most interest coming from scrap dealers.

To beat off the scrap-man, we need to raise a lot of money and fast! Realistically, we're talking five figures at least. We literally need thousands of pounds to save this loco.

Will You Help?

We will be bidding as much as we can raise between now and the deadline, through Electric Traction Ltd, our associated limited company. If you want to contribute, please download and fill out the appeal form here (requires Acrobat Reader) and send your cheque, payable to "Electric Traction Ltd" to Class 89 Appeal, Woodlands, Manse Road, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, AB51 3UJ. Cheques will be cashed only if we are successful in our bid.

You can also help by donating to the Group using our online donation form (PayPal) here (non-refundable).

Don't let the Badger slip away: act today!

I shouldn't think so.

For those of us who aren't into this modern image malarkey, what's so special about this loco, in a nutshell?

I liked the Fictitious Liveries page, BTW - I'll be having a better look at lunchtime!

Paul, I would like to say that it could be a modern day comparison to Duke of Glocs. It's a one off that was saved once already from the scrap yard. But I don't know if the comparison is over stating it ?

Other than that, I confess, I'm posting it on behalf of a colleague ! So I don't know ?

Andy P.S. Yes, the liveries are funny !!!
