RCU mysteriously gains 500 guest users.

For the last few days since the change RCU has had fewer users than RGROUPS and I pointed it out a few times here. After yesterdays posts about it, obviously seen by both sides of the issue I was amazed to see the guest users on RCU jump up by 500 users, since then by removing the 500 from the total ends up with the same average as before. I know that the counting software could have been off as the site is new ;-) but am I just imagining it. I know it must be embarrassing for the site to be behind and it will be a disaster if the paying advertisers see the trend but how can I believe it is just a coincidence. I hope it is just a fluke as if they are padding the numbers it is just of interest to us users but it is a different story to the advertisers. Check it out and tell me what you think guys.

Dude. Go to bed. Get some sleep. It is NOT part of some vast RCU conspiracy. For somebody that has done nothing but bitch about RCU, you seem to be spending quite a lot of time there if you are able to keep viewer statistics. Could those numbers be just YOU going back and back and back to check the numbers? Meeeellllllooooooowwwwwwwww.........

I noticed the same thing. 500 guests. 150 more guests than registered members. Seems odd, no?

Not odd if people will not drop their firewalls to log on, at least it's not odd in my opinion.

You're right jr except for the fact that till the word went round that rcg was getting more users rcu had 500 less guests. Then there was a sudden jump of 500 who apparently have stayed logged on 24 hours a day.

Another civil conversation about RCU.

Guys, don't forget that these problems are a temporary thing. It's not part of some vast conspiracy to hold RCU users hostage and make them pay a ransom for access.

This is my observation: Unlike RCGroups.com, where there is a banner ad on the top of every page, the new RCU actually has LESS advertising. No banner ads when viewing individual threads!

The login problems are temporary. The firewall problems are temporary. All the problems are temporary. You've got to expect this when you start from scratch like they did with the new site. It's probably going to be an inconvenience for two, three, maybe four weeks, but it's just that, an inconvenience.

With all honesty here the reason it most likely is showing a large increase in guests is because many people are having problems logging in therefor it shows them as a guest. Think about it...

But, RCU will hold your registration information hostage apparently forever. There is no option for any user to unregister.

After I read this, I could not believe it. I went to RCGroups (as I often do now) and checked up on new threads. Yes, there is a small banner ad even when viewing individual threads. The front page actually had two banners. The second banner was from rcgroups indicating that they offer free web hosting. Would that even be considered an ad? Just for kicks, I had to see if this was true with RCU. I visited the site (all shields up) . The front page was cluttered beyond belief. It contained two ads on the page. I entered the planes forums. There I found one banner ad. I then entered the sub forum "3D flying". There was the largest banner ad I have ever seen on any message board. It was 750 x 346 pixels (as opposed to rcgroups at 450 x 55 pixels). Then I saw another banner (a more appropriate size 521 x 125) at the bottom of the same page. So far, it seemed like quite a bit more advertising but, I suppose if one reads threads only, then you could consider RCU as LESS advertising. But wait!! I chose to read a thread. There, at the top of the page, a 475 x 100 banner. I could hardly believe my eyes. After Mr. Kirsch even emphasized LESS. My adventure was not over yet. At the bottom of that individual thread (with the banner at the top) was.....ANOTHER BANNER. At least I did not have to experience one of the full page ads during my visit. I must ask, how does this equate to LESS advertising? Was there a multiplication factor I was to use while visiting rcgroups?

The statement that "RCU actually has less advertising" could not be further from the truth. You are doing exactly what you accuse others of doing - Spreading Misinformation about RCU!

has far less advertising on their site! This statement is based upon my visits to both sites today at approx 1645 hrs est.

I would think that you, as a moderator for RCU, would be privileged to a bit more regarding the site. I assume you took the time to visit rcgroups to see their banners. Did you take the time to visit your own site?

In the future, try to limit your observations to more factual information.

Thank you for your time.

Yet. The operative word here is, "yet." Do any of these alternative sites offer options to unregister? I don't think RCGroups.com does (I can't find it), yet many people now put them up on a pedestal as the standard by which all other sites are judged.

I'm sorry, but I spent several hours surfing individual threads. At the time I wrote that, I saw NO banner ads on any of the individual threads on my browser. I just checked again today, and there are now banner ads. My mistake.

At one point, my words were true. The problem is that the misinformation that I am objecting to was never true in the first place! There is a difference between observed behaviour based on fact, and a knee-jerk reaction based entirely on personal opinion.
