Well, it took Steve Stallings a while to figure out why his spambot had dumped them, so while they were technically uploaded on the
19nth, they didn't actually appear in the dropbox until a couple days later, I think. As for file names, in the interest of brevity, my hope was that interested folks would look for project dig.txt after clicking on the dropbox link and then go from there. Interestingly, I still haven't heard from Steve exactly what happened. He's a pretty busy guy and I don't want to submit other stuff until it doesn't look like it will cause him further pain...Charles Morrill

Well ... I might have -- if there had been a mention of what the photos were about in your posting. I read a *lot* of things in this newsgroup, and don't necessarily remember who is posting about which project.
I talked to him about other things recently, and happened to mention the problems which you had been having and he said that it appears to have been that the first item (the plain text part of the e-mail) which never got closed, so it could not find the start of the attachments.
What was your e-mail program? I can tell you that mutt (a unix e-mail program) will e-mail attachments to the dropbox without problems, and your OS-X has a unix under the hood, so you could install it and use it for dropbox submissions. It is a free program, but you'll have to get the gcc compiler (also free) to compile it.

I'm using "Mail 1.2.5 (v553)" for OS-X for email and pretty much like it. I'm also using a terrific newsreader called "Unison" to read this newsgroup. It's the best Mac newsreader I've seen so far, and I've been through a few. I'm using a simple text editor within OS-X for the text files.
Would it be possible to use "Mail" to ship the pictures and then mutt to ship the text? I'm trying to find a relatively painless solution. The mac lets me take pictures with a digital camera, import, and then ship them out in email right now.

Hmm ... "Mail" from the unix command line, or is this something accessed through the Mac GUI?
The problem was, as far as I remember, that there was no "body" to the e-mail (that is message text, as compared to attached descriptive text files), and *that* was what the program fouled up. This suggests that you would have the same problem with just shipping the images with that.
Mutt, once you compose your e-mail text, you can then type "a" (attach) where it is waiting for you to type 'y' to send the message, and it will prompt you for the filename to attach (including path, if it is somewhere else). You can keep doing that until you run out of files to attach, (including the ".txt" file), and then type 'y' to send it all. But it does need to be invoked from the command line, not from the GUI, as it is a unix program without even having an X11 wrapper to use unix's native GUI. Since I *like* working in command-line windows, this is no problem for me, but it might be for you.
But -- in such a format that the Microsoft package which is receiving and extracting things on Steve's system can't handle it.
I've got no idea what would happen if you sent them to me, and I won't be able to find out, because I've got blocking set to keep out
*all* e-mails larger than 30k total -- to keep all those virii from filling my mailbox.I hope so. We expect to be there -- and given a nice bit of weather forecast, we may not even have to run off early this year.

You can go grab Eudora--it will handle attachments in a way to make the dropbox happy (I think) if you set the encoding to UUE. It'll be a button in the top-left of the screen after you put an email together. I like Eudora more than Mail, but that might be because I've been using it for ten years. (:
