OT: Amazon scam?

Pardon the OT post but I'm curous if anyone has ordered something that qualifies for supersaver (free) shipping which amazons website indicates will get it to you before Christmas and then after order is set, get a message it won't get to you in time unless you pay for shipping?

Thanks,

Wes S

Good question. They have also a promotion today that gives me back $30 if I get their credit card. I used it to buy three books (_State of Denial_, _Fiasco_ and _One Percent Doctrine_), all three ended up costing $19.99 plus zero shipping (super saver shipping). I will see if I get them before Christmas.

That has happened to me, but not at Christmas. Don't opt for the free shipping if there is a time requirement. They sit on it for a week, then ship the cheapest way.

Barnes and Noble did that to me before Christmas a few years ago and I haven't bought anything from them since.

The other alternative to to order early enough so the free shipping deal doesn't kill your schedule. The free deal comes with a maximum time to deliver, and a "typical" time. Figure on the maximum, always.

If _any_ company reneges on a contractual deal (free or not) that spoils the purpose of the order, they've incurred a liability more than merely the cost of the product. It's illegal to do that.

It is a convoluted contract that is created after you do all the work and input and is carefully designed to defraud everyone except Scamazon.

I got that two years ago when I was buying stuff for my daughter. It specifies shipping time, but doesn't tell you when they plan to SHIP it.

I cancelled the order, and re-ordered those items that did not have the long delay before shipping.

In one case an item I ordered for myself was delayed 6 months. (I think it was a Jet Cabinet Saw Dado Insert).

Check on the availability of the item before ordering. In some cases I also had to group items into smaller orders of the same type (just DVD's, just books, etc.) to save money and to get items to arrive in time.

I've honestly never had anything but good/pretty fast shipping with "super saver" maybe I'm just located close to a distro center or something (Michigan and NW Indiana). They always seemed to arrive in about 4 days max. (not near any holidays however).

Likely it is a supplier delay shipping and then Amazon shipping would be late. So they try to help you get it to you in time.

They don't stock everything. They have store houses all over the country / world? and ship from them if in their stock.

I was just notified today that one item won't make it for Christmas. It was delayed by the supplier - and allowed me to do as I want with the order.

Wow, that's unusual. I'm on the Left Coast so everything takes longet to get here with the exception of things from CA.

Amazon even states on their description that SSS adds processing time. "Select Super Saver Shipping as your shipping speed. Please note that your order will take an additional 3 to 5 days to ship."

I ordered a super-saver item last week. Amazon just shipped it, on schedule, with no quibbles.
