Where's the "releasing" part? Is that black ring a scraper?

Probably has a tube with a capped end, with magnet inside attached to a sliding sleeve. When used the magnet picks up metal, then the metal is released by drawing the magnet away from the end of the tube until distance makes the metal turn loose. This keeps you from having to pick off the metal from the magnet. We use something similar at work to load screws at the workstations, or if someone dumps a box of screws on the floor.
