Rather splendid model railway (live steam)

It's the 10,000 quid toy article - 6 inch guge - set up in a purpose built shed (the size of a ballroom). The track is assembled as per prototype, complete with bolt on fishplates, chairs etc. Locos run on coke, single tube boilers. Pics are a bit grainy and no track plan as such but it looks like it was a lot of fun.

Sigh

coke, single tube boilers.

And as it was 112 years ago the price probably corresponded to many Millions of pounds nowadays!

Splendid is the perfect adjective. Multipliers of around 50-100 are generally about right for the turn of the century. It's not straightforward, because obviously the relative price of different items has shifted a lot - so those men building the track would have been paid a relative pittance by todays standards, not just an actual pittance. But something approaching £1m is about right, I would say. Judging by the article, presumably about 2/3 of that was on the room.
