Anyone got one of these? I'm intrigued as to what the 'optimised rotational speed for cooling' is. Can't be '000s of rpm if its only running on two AA cells.

Just before I took early retirement last year, the design organisation I worked for developed a promotional product very similar to the Tinchilla for a major drinks company. It too used a couple of AA cells to run a tiny motor, and to rotate the case (via some plastic gears and a friction wheel) at about 20 rpm. I don't remember the rotational speed being desperately critical - it varied anyway with drag from the ice bath, and as the batteries expired.

The device worked amazingly well, and certainly cooled a canned drink very much quicker than putting it in the fridge.

Does the tin axis need to be horizontal? I can envisage a two gallon pail of iced water with a plank over it suspending a cradle on a string rotated by a ready made geared electric drive from the 'it'll come in handy one day' shelf. Easier to bodge one up than analyse it.

Might even chill a can of cider for SWMBO and earn some Brownie points.
