CNC questions

Hi all,

i would like to ask if anyone had any experience with CNC'ing some parts. What i have in mind is around 15 aluminium parts, not overly complex (one circular and most being simply L-shaped) and with around 4-6 holes on each. Their sizes would range from 2-5cm X 2-15cm.

What should i be expected to pay for such a service(i will not have the raw aluminium to provide)? Would anyone have any experience with a cheap but reliable company in the UK that could provide me with what i need? Keep in mind that i could also live with any kind of strong plastic (if i knew what to ask for..).

Thank you in advance,

Konstantinos

--Well for starters you might want to post your needs to uk.rec.models.engineering as this is the group with home shops and decent skillsets to do what needs to be done. From your description it doesn't sound like cnc is a strict requirement; i.e. they could be done on manual machines, yes?

Do you have a CAD drawing for these parts? I ask as a DXF file would assist programming and reduce your cost.

It's going to be worth looking thru' the Yellow Pages for local engineering firms that may have the facilities to help.

Some times you might find a local schools/colleges/universities with facilities that may help. These may not be so straight forward or always available but might depend on you giving them some support, say technical support on practical projects, in return for use of facilities.

The colleges sometimes have short evening classes on machine shop & workshop techniques, these will often allow you access to the facilities and supervision you need to undertake the work yourself.
