Various people here would offer various opinions about whom you are like, but most would agree that much of your writing is science fiction. ;-)

I wouldn't worry about the distinction between characters and authors too much

-- when I write, my major characters have a lot of me in them. Although I would guess that would be less true of a more skilled writer.

Really, I had no idea Gregory Benford defrauded all his business partners. Are you sure about that?

Libertarians are not "far right" and socialists are not "far left". You need a second axis to plot them. Go to the link in my previous post in this thread.

The majority of the population comes out between libertarian or centerist. Yet our country is run almost exclusively by one of two parties, one that wants to take away our personal freedoms, and another that wants to take away our economic freedoms. I just don't underestand why more Americans don't have a problem with this very broken system.

I think I may have read some of his stuff but it's been so long since I've read any sci-fi, I'm not sure.

I love that one, and the sequel! They are two of my all-time favorite SF novels.

I also like C.J. Cherreh's SF work, especially the"Chanur's Pride" trilogy, and Harry Harrison's "Stainless Steel Rat" series.
