I do worse. I go out of my way to cost them money. I demand that they send me copies of their do not call policies, and offer to take future calls from them for $500 per call. When I get messages from them on my machine, I call one back, flash, then call another, so the Scum#2s message ends up on Scum#1 voicemail. Then I do the reverse!

I disagree. They violate my privacy. They waste my time and my resources. Yesterday I came home and found two long telemarketing messages on my answering machine that used up all but the last 30 seconds of tape on my maching. And HALF of one important family message. And later found out that I didn't get an important message I was expecting.

Telemarketing is equivalent to SPAM. Both should be banned. Or at least opt-IN only.

Big deal. Use of a public utility doesn't mean I have to give up my right to control access to my phone, my money or my time.

I see nothing wrong with prohibiting telemarketers from harassing people who don't want to be called. Anyone who does that deserves to be punished. The fact that it would cut down on scams is merely a fringe benefit.

Personally, that would suit me fine. The fact that I did business with someone once in no way implies that I want them calling me at my home to try to sell something else. However, the law actually allows them to do so, so your point is moot.

HE is trying to make an analogy with a substance that kills or harms its users and its non users with NO positive benifits at all.

with things that harm or kill people but DO have positive if not outright required positive benifits.

you can not make a legitimate analogy between the two. they are not comparable.

Incorrect - the law does NOT punish them for calling you.

that IS NOT THE CASE HERE !!

the law only punishes those that ignore the do not call list that YOU have to actually sign up for.

if you are not on the no call list they have free reign on your phone.

basically the no call list is you specifically asking all of these people not to call you. and then punishes them for ignoring that request.

you twist the law to meet your own wants and desires.

as for cell phones you are full of cocka. I agreed to pay for my incoming calls NOT YOUR incoming calls that I did not authorize. you pitiful attempt to warp that sickens me.

The Constitution does NOT protect the spammers rights to do this. Free Speech gives you permision to say it. NOT permission to say it to me or FORCE me to hear it or pay for it.

But are you saying that I should have to live with the consequences of someone ELSES choices without recourse ?

that seems pretty foriegn to the constitutions intent to me.

Incorrect.

1 in 10 breaths filtered. I say that means I am getting 10% more crap than the smoker. (remember it is almost always more than one smoker)

and no. the smoker inhales 10% less byproducts as the non smokers because as you said 1 in 10 breaths is filtered.

then you have the problem of him EXHALING the crap between puffs and even hours AFTER he has finishes smoking.

this is stuff that does not count toward his intake (since he has already taken it in) but now I am forced to inhale as he or she breathes it out.

Your argument is denied

Have you heard that there is now a natioal do not call database that you can sign up for?

What is really needed is a do not SPAM database. People are losing large amounts of otherwise productive time dealing with SPAM.

I know Ray likes SPAM because without it, he wouldn't have a source for cheap Viagra. 8-)

A cite here would be nice, but I seriously doubt that you'll find one.

You lead a very sheltered life. I happen to know at least 5 people who enjoy smoking. FWIW, people can become addicted to smoking, drinking, gambling, sex, and yes, even food... a whole host of things.

You're spewing again.

Uh, actually, I can get to the trails I ride by pedal alone. Your point (actually, I know what it is, but it's more fun to egg you on)?

Ah. *This* is good! So you built your own Jeep from raw materials, eh? Pretty cool. I mean, turnabout is fair play, right? So just how much iron ore did it take for *you* to be able smelt the steel for the frame? Brilliant comment.

Chris, as is par for the course, you've deviated from the original point of my post. I was pointing out not only the flaws in your logic, but the fact that sometimes when people do certain things for "themselves" they may be seriously impacting others which object to those "things"; whether or not they may have "positive benefits" for the "user".

Actually, yes. At this point in these threads, you remind me of an alley cat pinned under a dumpster by a bunch of dogs. You *know* you've been nailed "five ways from Sunday", but you still hunch your back up in an effort to look "big and scary"...

Wait a second. CT doesn't have one of those standard American pot bellies like the rest of us. He's more like a scaled up rounded-off flying pyramid of death with a couple (ie 2) appendages dangling under it. 10 cords? Hah! Mere kindling for CT's biomass furnace. He's probably the main cause of global warming and the hole in the ozone layer. Yeah, and he's worried about 2nd hand smoke? Hah! ;)

Two people standing in a room. One smoking, one not. Smoker inhaling clean air because his ciggy has a filter. Non-smoker inhaling dirty air because he has no filter.

Chris, logically then, it would be better for you to smoke because it is cleaner than non-smoking.

I believe that they might say that but it's not true. Keep in mind that SPAM is a way to get you to give your money to someone. If there is not a way to find the originator, how are you going to send them your money?

Also, there are headers in the messages that you normally don't see. They contain a lot of inforation that helps find the originator.

I'd guess the latter over the former. Revenge seems to be a stronger driving force than love, unfortunately.
