Perhaps CT could quantify this for us?

Thanks a bunch, Steve. Yes, you nailed. It's a psyche reconstruction project. I have to tell the guy in the mirror he's a clean living sort now, and he should be proud of it. But it takes a while to get re-acclimated. Nevertheless, I promised myself and God I'd never light up again, and so it shall be.

Ya know, that's probably not too far off from my entire monthly rocket budget :)

You don't know a damn thing about why people smoke. I smoked for almost 20 years because I liked it. I quit several times during those

20 years, but went back because I liked it. Period.

Wrong. I know lots of people that were "social smokers" and not "addicts".

Really? Tell me the withdrawal signs that a sex addict experiences and tell me how they differ from someone who just likes sex? ;-)

And YOU are only allowed to complain about carcinogens in cigarettes when YOU aren't generating any yourself. Fair enough?

I see. It has to pass the Chris Taylor definition of "fun" or it'll be made illegal. I see now.

In your opinion.

There you go again (in my best Ronald Reagan voice) using that term "positive benefit"(spelled correctly, I might add). Can you give me an example of a "negative benefit"?

Alcohol, loud amplifiers at a rock concert, internal combustion engines, fireworks..need more?

What do I win?

Hum...took you two posts to come up with that comeback, Chris? Maybe I wasn't being too critical earlier. ;-)

Government "revenue enhancement".

Yes the ATF is listening and needs to add more letters to its name.

I have not read up on the do not call list, however it looks like a step in the right direction. What I always wnated was a system where any time a tellemarketeer, or one of thier robots. etc. rings your phone your phone service accont is credited $1.00 plus $.20 for each minute of the connection. Once a month your tellephone service company would send you a check for the balance over your normal phone bill. This is not a high enough cost to put tellemarketeers out of buisness, but it is high enough to make them moore focussed and efficent, and it encourage me to actualy pick up the phone when it rings.

How do I report a violation of the do not call list to my phone, and see throught the prosecution and collection of fines? I don't see where I have the slightest bit of control. It seems like compliance is entirely vountary, rather than enforced, prosecuted, and fined. I understand that there is $11,000 fine for each violation, but that none of this goes toward actual victim comensation, nor compensation for my active cooperation in reporting the law violation and aiding its prosecution through to the collection of fines.

It seems to me that the government is in complete control of every aspect of this thing, except for actualy placing my number on the do not call list.

That is a practical suggestion.

Poor people will INSIST on being on call lists :)

This would create a great market for automated answering/voice recognition machines which would answer the computer-generated mortgage calls and keep them on the line with computer generated responses, thereby racking up the telemarketer's fees. I like it...

Wow, you could even maintain a special phone line (which you never answer personally) to generate extra fees. Or how 'bout an automated call center to REALLY generate a revenue stream!

BTW, anyone ever notice that "custom ringing" is just a repackaging of "party line" service? [or is that too OT? ;^) ]

but WE are far more intelligent today. and their are FAR more smokers today.

if you are going to do what SHOULD be illegal and what is HARMFUL to me then the LEAST you can do is do it SOMEWHAT responsibly. Take care of your freaking trash.

it is my DUTY to fight against injustice and get it changed.

I would not be a good american citizen if I did not at least try.

The positive benifits from from the purchase of cigarettes. their is no positive benifit from the USE of cigarettes.

I say you are delusional.

I say your ADDICTION convinced you that you liked it.

Nothing more. Remove the addiction and you would not like it. Do not believe me ?

go out and buy 10 packs of Quest level 3 cigarettes and tell me you like it.

same as normal cigarettes without the nicotine.

Sure you would. It's called "allowing others to exercise liberty", and it's a cornerstone of freedom. Even if it means allowing others to make mistakes.

Huh? I twisted nothing.

You said "Cigarettes KILL but give NOTHING back to anyone".

I merely refuted the second part of that sentence, nothing else.

No it has to pass its not going to kill me definition of fun you idiot. Spin it how you wish.

IT is not an opinion it is a realistic and absolute FACT. delude yourself all you want.

Hmmm lets see. Hmmm wow that's a tough one. HOW ABOUT MY FREAKING HEALTH AND DEATH !!

Hmmm that was really hard.

all choices I choose to drink and do not cause anyone else to become drunk with me. I can listen to loud music without blowing anyone elses ear drums. IC's we all benifit from an accepted risk. unless you accept no benifits from them you can not complain of their existence on your side of this argument. Fireworks same deal. used improperly to where they COULD affect others is already illegal therfore irrelevant. You can keep spinning things all you want. it does not change reality.

I am waiting for such an example.
