The one thing I heard about space camp probably applies to the adults as well as the kids. For a group of 30 people, 29 stand around watching one person do something, repeated until everyone gets a chance. Then move to the next activity and repeat... A week at space camp is less than a days activity.

It's very much like spending all day in line to ride the attractions at Disneyworld...

It is absolutely nothing like that. I didn't do the adult program though because I was 14 when I went in 1999 (was actually there for the 30th anniversary of Apollo 11) and during that time I didn't do much sitting around. You're there for five days and the first day they show you around and let everyone use the training machines, of which they have many, so several people are doing things at once. Then you can just walk around and explore the museum and the "rocket garden" which is pretty sweet, espicially the Saturn V laid out on it's side. The next day they explain the mission you're going to take part in and what you yourself will have to do then the next day you actually go throught the mission. You repeat this two-day mission process again and on the last day they have a closing ceremonies type thing. All in all it was one of the best weeks of my life and there was very little sitting around. I say go and enjoy! It's amazing. Randy D Co-Prez, SoJARS

Spacecamp at the US Space and Rocket Center is a great program! My wife has participated in the Space Camp for teachers on several occasions and has thoroughly enjoyed it each time. IMO, it would be an awesome Christmas present!

If you do send your son/daughter, make sure that you send a good camera with him/her; there are a ton of great classic rockets and military missiles on static display.

yes but will it train you to be an astronaut? or is it just a handholding disenyride?

They "train" you to a certain extent. You can have positions in the space station doing experiments, in the shuttle simulator as pilot, commander, and mission specialists, or work in mission control. They don't sit there and tell you every step, they let you figure it out on your own and if you don't do things right the mission could end badly. I myself almost missed a rising pressure in a fuel tank which could have blown up the shuttle! I caught it in time, luckily. Randy D Co-Prez, SoJARS
