1/72 Bf 109 kits

That was my interpretation of those two also. I distinctly remember a review in Air International of the Heller kit and that was Fred Henderson's opinion. The Revell kit didn't arrive on the market whilst Mr. Henderson's column existed so whatever his opinion on that one is unrecorded. AFAIK, the Heller kit is now available through Airfix. Both kits are fun builds as long as you remember their switched identities.

The Heller kit Early Boxing Kit # 074 was more of a G-14 Later Boxing Kit # 229 had changes made to correct it to a K

Didn't see anything directly on the Revell kit though if it is the same as the ProMod the reviewer claimed :

"The model represents a Bf-109 G-10/B because it features a short tail wheel. However, with a few changes to the tail wheel, oil coolers, wing bulges and some rescribing, the model can be converted into G-6AS, G-10/A, G-14AS and K-4 variants. "

Thanks for the replys guys, next step I suppose is to find some refference to match up what the sugestions say they are as after looking at various items on the Hannants web site I found an Almark decal set with a downloadable pdf file that I have printed out which shows a G-6/U2, a G-14AS and three K-4's so I am now none the wiser ans none of them match either kit though the G-14AS looks like the Revell kit without bulges at the lower forward end out the exhausts.

Perhaps if someone can point Me towards a good reference sorce, proferabily on line?

I'm afraid I don't know any online sources but if you can check out a copy of Squadron's 'Bf 109 in Action, Pt.2' it might help. I used that as my main source along with any other print sources I happened to have.

Over in alt.binaries.multimedia.aviation, a guy by the name of Waldo Pepper is posting pdf copies of the Squadron books and other similar ones. Really fascinating stuff. If your news server has a long retention period, then there's a treasure trove there for the picking.

Thats sounds wonderfull, its a pity that My I.S.P. dosent have that on its list of news groups :( but it definatly looks like thats the book I need.

The hard fact is that the many variations of the Messerschmitt Bf-109 is a very complex subject and one that really requires a lot of study. If you plan on getting involved in this esoteric world I would recommend acquiring a copy of: "The Messerschmitt Bf-109F, G and K series" by Jochen Prien and Peter Rodeike, Schiffer Pub., 1993, ISBN 0-88740-424-3. Have fun!
