Bert Ruttan and his pilot...

Same guy that played Mr. Haney on "Green Acres"? I didn't know that.

WmB asked:

Those old cowboys always wore white hats, never lost their hats in fistfights, loved their hosses and changed sidekicks on a semi-regular basis. Also their "six shooters" shot a lot more than 6 rounds before needing reloading.

Rick Like who's not going to recognize the Lone Ranger without his mask? He always has that Indian with him!

We know it wasn't Dale Evans. She was true to her man, who was fooling around with the Sons of the Pioneers the whole time.

That was in the later years. Earlier it was Smiley Burnett, aka "Frog."

Considering that the Russians wanted $2,000K for civilians to ride the Soyuz, I'd say its a bargain. Maybe someday I'll be able to afford a ride (and maybe not).

Buttrum, I believe. Generally I prefer Roy's sidekicks, by gum!

Back a few years when we had Movieplex here, "The Gene Autrey Show" played every Wednesday evening at 8:00PM. It got a little tedious because the plot always seemed the same, moreso than other half-hour Westerns. Still, I saw a fair amount of the shows. Hey, it was better than almost everything else on at that hour.

Right now I'm enjoying "The Lone Ranger" courtesy of the local religious TV station. They appear to be re-playing them in order according to imdb.com. Yeah, I'm taping them. ;)

You're *all* wrong. (If only by degrees...)

A bargain?!? For 10x the price you got 100x to 200x the flight time, plus you were in orbit, plus you got to go to a space station. Even so, how many takers did they have at that price - two? Although the service is certainly price elastic, at $200,000 you are still way up on the concrete portion of the curve, with a capable market of about 25 people.

Do not forget either that $200K is their goal, not a price guaranteed to be sustainable with a reasonable rate of return, nor one supported by rational accounting practices. I strongly suspect that their costs will be found to be wildly underestimated, meaning that they'll either have to bump the price up or lose money on more trips before breaking even. Even Branson isn't willing to piss money down a rathole forever. (And I suspect even less so once he has taken _his_ trip.)

I posit that Space Ship One or it's immediate descendents make fewer than 20 flights over the next five years, which is about the same as saying "ever".

I'm a big fan of non-regulation. Plenty of room for some Darwin awards.

Rutan was lucky the old fool didnt kill himself! This spaceplane thing is ever so swell, so they got into 0G, oh my , how special! But they have not and cannot achieve Orbit, and lets face it,, that composite peice of crap would burn to ashes if it treid to re-enter the atmosphere after achieving orbital velocity!

But dont sweat it, The GOV wont allow such a thing. No Insurance company would back it. And this spaceplane thing has seen its heyday!

BTW, NASA SUCKS! The Shuttle SUCKS, Space exploration is a total waste of time, as we will NEVER reach anything out of the galaxie, and furthermore, nobody would survive a trip to even the nearest star system!

I'd shove him out the airlock but that would be pollution of Space. There's enough crap orbiting the Earth now.

Well done! I couldn't help but notice the similarities. And the fact that he doesn't know the difference between a galaxy and a solar system. Beers

That was the term that they used in the old "Battlestar Galactica" TV series. Maybe that's where he gets his science from?
