The serin shell is the lead story on all of the networks.
It was apparently a low yield due to age decomposition. Two bomb disposal people had "slight contamination" and were being treated.

So what if it was? Saddam was required to account for *all* WMD in Iraq's possesion.
it contained.
Completely beside the point.
I don't know and either do you. Of course the moonbat Left won't accept any less proof than finding WMD neatly labled and arranged in concentric rows.
WMD were hardly the only reason we invaded Iraq.
I know someone that thinks we should have found some sort of laboratory and rocket launch platform straight out of James Bond or Austin Powers. Our guys were supposed to swoop in have a climactic battle with Sheik Evil's private army and pull the plug on a rocket launch 10 seconds before liftoff.
Seriously, anything short of that in her mind is not an "impending danger". What can you expect from someone that looked like a deer caught in headlights when I informed her that her beloved Oprah gets financial compensation or consideration for promoting certain books over others. DUH!

I'm sure they do now as we've been discussing it in the news all day.

Betcha they're looking for more of them by now, not to mention a more effective way of using them...... :(
Oh yeah...that they would find their own WMD before we do...now wouldn't THAT be a surprize...
Actually, it would be the height of irony. I wonder if the brass in Iraq is considering going to MOPP 1 or 2.....

Have they ever stood down from MOPP 1? Looks like they still carry masks, or at least the bags. . .

I hadn't noticed. I'll have to watch more closely when I look at pics online.
They'd certainly be pre-conditioned to do so...
Seems agreed this was an old shell. If any one wants WMD you can go to the WW1 battle fields and dig up some Mustard and Phosgene shells, they are unearthed on a regular basis there. It doesnt mean Belgians are stocking up on WMD, just that the previous owners were very careless.
There will be plenty of caches of these in Iraq. Civil and Military Stores keepers are the same the world over,
know what it contained.
As I said before: "So what if it was? Saddam was required to account for *all* WMD in Iraq's possesion."
Belgium wasn't under UN sanctions to divest itself of WMD.
Thank you!
Al, irony is not a grey shiney colour!
The caches will be there not by design but by the stupidity of pedantic Quarter Masters who didnt receive the right form! Some gas shells were found in Iraq months ago.
As for Belgium it just illustarates that battlefields are littered with caches of the stuff, as will the Iran/ Iraq war battlefields. Its nothing to get excited about.
But I don't remember reading about the Belgians digging any up and detonating them in the vicinity of US troops.
OK, how many do you want before we say Iraq still has WMD. Will 5 shells be enougy? How about 50; 100 maybe? Or does it take a whole boatload before you admit Iraq still has WMD? Sheeeesh!
Except that they were supposed to have declared and destroyed it. This is a very simplistic and unrealistic view of the situation.
" In walks the village idiot and his face is all aglow; he's been up all night listening to Mohammad's radio" W. Zevon
The former regime had declared all such rounds destroyed before the 1991 Gulf war." It is the first time chemcial agents have been found in Iraq since the US-led war began.
I'll take the reasoned view below thanks.]#
"However, experts said that the presence of sarin did not indicate that Saddam Hussein had an ongoing programme to create Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Instead, they speculated that the sarin dated back to the Iran-Iraq war.
Former UN weapons inspector Hans Blix concurred, saying: "There can be debris from the past and that's a very different thing from having stockpiles and supplies."
Could be why the Occupation authorities sat on the story for a couple days. Give them a head start. Kim M
