Making a difference..

I ended up trashing my F8. The wings didn't fit and the undercarriage was very lightweight once I had weighted the nose and I ended up breaking the main wheel struts. I was trying to recreate a Meteor that was stationed at Wattisham, just down the road from me. I had the decals, etc. but the model just collapsed under me :-(

I would really like to make a Sea Hawk but am very reluctant to get involved in CA kits again.

Why is the choice between "buying" seatbelts, or doing without?

We are model builders... *make* some seatbelts!

Paper, tape, foil, thin styrene....the options are endless.

You should send a request to Meteor Productions; if they hear enough bad reports on the gear they're likely to make a metal replacement set. Or you could hang it from the ceiling. Throw it away and hell you'll pay, better hang on to it-be worth money some day!

If you have a really steady hand you could hollow out some of the landing gear with a needle thin bit and insert a stiff piece of wire.

I've done that on a number of models, usually after they broke once or twce.

FWIW Aero-Club made a line of Meteor kits in 1/48 and maybe their cast metal landing gear would work. Might be worth an e-mail to them to ask. As it is, we all stand warned about the CA Meteor kits now.

Yes it needs building and some parts could fit better, the interior for example, but it is nothing that somebody can't work out. It is, I am lead to believe, after all a limited run kit. Please don't take this as an " I'm a better builder than you "post but I have found that the William Bros C46 required more care in assembly.

Maybe we can all find a model that was worse but I found that I spent hours on this just to get the wing joints sorted. That said, if ever I want to get a Wattisham Meteor on my shelf then I will have to have another go. The trouble si that I really want to make a 1/48 Sea King and this makes me hesitate.
