?v=6ybuCIO_D3U&mode=related&search=It looks like the aircraft was performing an Immelman* *roll when it crashed.

An Immelman goes up (half loop up and roll out at the top), a Split-S goes down, (roll to the inverted then a half loop down).. Whichever, he was way too low, you have to wonder what possessed him to try it, presuming that's what he was indeed trying to do. Or perhaps something in the airplane broke, or maybe it stalled after his little pullup before the maneuver and the plane dropped a wing... who knows? Scott Wilson

They had that odd Mosquito crash back in 1996 that also occurred after the aircraft inverted itself:

maneuver the Hurricane performed just before the crash was pretty severe despite its moderate speed....in fact, it looked more like something one would see a Spitfire do than a Hurricane. Like you say, he seemed to be way too low to do this. It looks like both the pilot and aircraft were experiencing some pretty severe g loads as he does the maneuver and begins the pullout...did he black out?

My father (worked for AA for 45 1/2 years) looked at it repeatedly, and like you said, was wondering what went through his mind. It *appears* that halfway through it, the guy almost panicked, you can see him attempt to change direction partway through the *maneuver*.

Well, It's like my Pa said long ago when someone asked him;

"Never Sent One Up That Didn't Come Down"
