Recommendation for 1:48 Helcat

I have built a couple of the recent Tamiya kits and thoroughly enjoyed them. Would like to do a Hellcat if anyone makes one of roughly comparable quality. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jack G.

Hasegawa makes one with a slightly odd-shaped engine cowl, but nice otherwise. Otaki/Arii also makes a nice one, but could use a new cockpit.

I have built the ARII/Otaki kit with a True Details resin cockpit ant it makes a really nice Hellcat. I would endorse this approach over the Hasegawa kit with the messed up cowling anyday, and it is cheaper. Remember that the ARII/Otaki 1/48 Hellcat molds are now being sold as a

1/48 scale Airfix Hellcat.

Haven't built the Hasegawa. Have built the .. think it was arii. My build info is at

Hasegawa has several versions. My nightfighter fell together--actually easier than the last two Tamiya's I made. Marine markings too if that matters.

Monogram made a nice one with retractable gear and folding wings. 8^)

If you're looking for interior detail and finesse you have to go with Hasegawa. Only problem is the cowling-the grin is too thin on the chin. There are several aftermarket replacements available. The Otaki /Arii kit isn't a bad build for the price. hth

If you want to go with the Hasegawa, Obscureco offers a corrected cowling.
