Revell's 1/400 CVN-65

folks, Toys-R-Us in Sarnia Ontario are parting with the seriously over boxed

1/400 Enterprise from Revell at 49.99 CDN... they had 7 by the exits this morning...

now after a quick search, it seems this is a rebox of questionable age & quality, and more worrisome, the photo on the side panel of a built up kit is so poorly done that I didn't show it to my 10 year old son !!!

can the kit be salvaged ? any pics of a finished kit out there for inspiration ?

cheers Bill TGH Sarnia, the retirement capital of Canada.

Yep, old Aurora. From what I remember when I built it (1971), just about the same quality/detail as the old 1/5?? scale line; Forrestal/Independence, etc. from Revell (?). But what does the 1/350 Trumpeter go for now?

I built the Monogram release of this old Aurora kit back in the early '80s. All 3 deck sections were warped as well as the hull having a twist to it. My then girlfriend gave it to me for Xmas, so I HAD to build it. Anyway, glue, superglue, clamps & weights & filler got it together so-so, at least good enough for her. I have the overboxed Revell release as well as another Monogram release I got off eBay recently. I haven't looked at either closely, but they don't appear to be warped. IIRC, it has mid '60s CVN-65 outfit & airwings.

I had the original Aurora release of this kit way back in the late '60s. Terrific kit for 10 or 11 year old. Probably over priced at

Not likely. I have the OTAKI 1/400 kit of the 60's version (beehive island). Sweet kit (still not built). ARII re-boxed this a few years ago. Have seen it on e-bay from time to time and I think it was available from HLJ not too long ago. Would recommend you look for that one if you want a real buildable kit of the "E".
