Revell Type VII D German Sub

Just got this baby at the hobby shop today, and it is really a beaut. Got the PE kit also. Altogether it set me back bout $53.

I just did a Google search (it is my friend sometimes) and was able to download about 8 pictures, including a couple of a built up model. In addition to the book, "Kriegsmarine U-Boats 1935/45" are there other sources for pictures on the net?

What are the equivalent to Testors and/or Tamiya colors for the following paints: matt gray matt granite gray matt dust gray metallic brass metallic silver metallic steel matt anthracite gray silky-matt fiery red matt gunship gray matt white matt light gray silky-matt leaf green silky-matt black

I know some are self explanatory, but at my age, I need all of the help I can get.

For those of you who have built this kit, what are some of the pitfalls and problem areas you have encountered?

Any and all info will be more than greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Hi

Try White Ensign Colors -they make the ones you are looking for. Testors Metalizer colors brush well for small details. For another good reference, try U-Boat.net and the Sub Committee on line. Nautilus Models does a laser etched wood deck for it....

Nautilus does wood decks for the Type VIIC series in 1/72 only, from the look of their website, so take care to know what you're ordering. The only Revell Type VIID ref I could fins was in 1/144 scale...

I second the White Ensign paints and info on U-boat.net. You've got 6 boats to choose from building a Type VIID, as I recall.

BTW - Testors Aircraft Interior black is a fantastic anthracite grey. Makes a killer tire color, too.

MMA = Testor's Model Master Acryl Silky matt sounds like Semi-Gloss

5 Shades of Gray... ?

Sorry , but my ignorance here is showing just a little bit too much. What scales are these Sub Kits made in.

Would there be one of the Sub Kits that's close to 1/100 th scale

Cyberborg, The Revell Type VII D is a 1/144 scale. However, it is pretty large (long) at around 2 feet plus a couple of inches.
