Derived Configurations

SolidWorks 2004/SP0

Re: Inserting derived configurations into an assembly. The referenced configuration inserted defaults to "use components "in use" or last saved configuration" when inserting a derived configuration. This problem started by replacing one part with another that has derived configurations. Also, SW does not allow the user to choose the derived configuration for insertion into the assembly. SW grays out the potential configuration choices and will only insert the default configuration. Fortunately, SW allows as it should to change the configuration through property manager.

Does 2004/SP1 fix this problem? The files have become so large it is next to impossible to download with a 56K modem. Will have to wait until my VAR sends me a disk or open my wallet for faster modem. I have been saving my nickels and dimes for 2004 maintenance fee just around the corner.

The bill of material custom property values do not automatically update if the drawing is opened and referenced to a new part. The new part was copied from part originally used in the drawing. One has to delete the BOM and re-insert for the values to be updated correctly. The BOM should be smart enough to update without the extra steps.

In this case the "stocksize" custom property values were unchanged from the old to new part.

As far as parts go, we create derived configs in Design tables using the "Parent" property.
