Edge selection

This is a strange one. SW2005 SP0 CD version, ATI FIreGL X2 AGP Pro video card, XP Pro SP1.

  1. Open a part, any part.
  2. Turn on shaded mode
  3. Select a visible edge - turns green on mine
  4. Change to some unshaded mode
  5. The edge selection color disappears. The edge is still selected, and I know it because I can run the mouse over various edges and they turn red except for that one. I can click on it and then reselect it. I can also perform an action on it.
  6. Now if you go to Tools/Options/Display/Selection/Selection of hidden edges and check the box for Allow selection in HLR and shaded modes, the edge selection color works properly - sort of. It's interesting that the edge I'm selecting is not a hidden edge.

If you play with the settings while the edge is selected, you find that it starts to work, and then breaks again if you go back to a shaded mode and then back to a non-shaded mode. I find that it's the act of toggling the 2 boxes that make it sort of work.

I tried this on another mostly identical machine, and it worked fine. The main difference on his is that he still has the download copy of SW2005, rather than the CD copy.

Mostly identical... Do you have identical video drivers and settings?

No prob here Wayne, the color stays green (selected). SP0 from CD's.

BUT I have, and am having, many "video" related problems with SW 2005 SP0.

A far as I know. I set up both machines and he's not one to tinker with settings. I don't however, know what resolution he's running - I'm on 1600 x 1200. I'll have to check.

I suspect it may be a very specific video issue, but I thought that just maybe someone else would also spot it.
