Athearn found lacking... again

You'd think Athearn would update their SD series instruction book, now that the new fully-assembled units have shipped! Anyone out there who has removed the shell yet? If so, how did you do it?

Has anyone installed a decoder in a new SD75M?

Frank, the new Athearn units will have four tabs in the fuel tank. You can either squeeze the long hood over the fuel tank, or use a small screwdriver to wedge the tabs back so you can lift the shell.

Unless it is held on by the couplers. (G)

Thanks! Is it safe to assume that the procedure for upgrading to DCC is the same as it has been for a while, namely you have to replace the existing circuit board with a decoder?

Frank

Actually, Frank, I have never seen the inside of one, just the underside. If it has constant lighting then, yes, just replace the circuit board and light bulb or put a resistor in the circuit so you don't blow up the bulb.
