This post didn't come from me, if you reply to group without changing where it goes it gets sent here news.admin.net-abuse.email

A simple search of properties will show it didn't come from me.

Sorry for any confusion. Lloyd

I had the same problem a few times in the past. After writing 3 emails, i tried to find out his phone number and tried to call him. Mostly i could solve the problem this way, the auction winner was on holiday, in the hospital or elsewhere. Maybe this is a costly way, but i could end all my auctions without getting or leaving negative feedback.

It seems to be happening to everyone in many groups. I think regulars are aware of it, so don't feel too bad....

It's all right; same has happened to me. I sure wish all Windoze users would acquire, install keep updated, and USE some anti-virus program.

Life would be SO much easier.

Even for us Macintosh users.

Since it seems virus like activity, I doubt they will be of any help.

I've had only one problem buyer in all the times I sold on eBay.

First time, one bidder, but he retracted his bid.

Sold the item (a semi-decorated Athearn U28B) to him by default, as he was the sole bidder. Emailed a congratulatory note, with instructions where to send the money order (I don't do PayPal). Nothing.

Emailed again, nothing. Phoned him; turns out he's a cop who's been working a lot of OT. Fine; when are you gonna pay me? "Soon." Nothing.

Same thing a little later, same routine. Guess what? Nothing. (Seeing a pattern here?)

Finally reported him to eBay, and barred him from all of my future auctions.

The guy has several neg feedback for nonpayment, and he's still allowed on eBay!

I've had a couple problems with deadbeats. One got resolved (the guy sent me a bad check, I finally got him to send payment plus the bounced check fees), another one kept wanting to put off payment (first he had car trouble, then I find out he told another seller that the guy had also won that his wife was in the hospital). For some reason, he never sent payment, threatened to leave negative feedback, but (accidently?) left positive feedback, so at that point, I didn't really have anything to lose by leaving him negative feedback ;^) One other bid on an item, kept making excuses, but didn't send payment, so for the neg. feedback, I actually said "Never sent payment, only sent excuses". Everything else has pretty much gone smoothly, both as a buyer and a seller.

As far as I've been informed/aware, this is the work of a notorious group of spammers (IIRC called 'Hipcrime') trying to get back at news.admin.net- abuse.email by trying to flood a huge range of newsgroups with deliberately offtopic messages with that followup set to try and severely disrupt the work of the NANAE regulars (who are heavily involved with the fighting of spam -- among which members of the legendary Lumber Cartel (TINLC)

Best response: do not react to those spurious messages; the headers are forged; the person whom it purports to come from is not to blame.

Usenet was designed in a time where trust meant something online; it wasn't designed to cope with people deliberately violating that intrinsic trust.

Steve Hoskins' knowledge of eBay and it's rules/enforcement procedures is VERY limited. When he has 10,000+ positive feedbacks w/only 1 negative, maybe he will have enough experience to be a "KNOW-IT-ALL" and post accurate (if off-topic) information. For correct information about eBay, go to the appropriate USENET group, alt.marketing.online.ebay.

Or why not do just as *I* did and go DIRECTLY to Ebay, you know it all.

I think you just can't handle it because I quoted directly from EBay, proving YOU wrong.

I concur with what Mr. Hoskins has posted, have had basically the same experiences that he has had.

I'd say he knows enough how to read the stuff right at EBay, not "hearsay" from some Usenet group as you suggest where everyone tends to exaggerate the truth.

And at least Mr. Hoskins has the BALLS to post a real username, etc., not hide all his information as you have done.

Laughable? Only your lack of brains.

Because you posted incorrect opinions not facts, even after you'd read what you could find on ebay's web site. The reason to seek authoritative advice from the correct newsgroup is that it's populated by EXPERIENCED eBay users, not a boiler room full of 18 year old minimum wage wanna be geeks.

eBay's HELP pages are labyrinth of hard to find answers to specific questions.

Steve Hoskins is far from a seasoned eBay user. And doesn't know much more about N scale model trains, one of his two primary eBay categories.

If Steve Hoskins has the balls to use his real name, why did he sign this last post "Sam Goldstein"?! Both Sam Goldsteins's and Steve Hoskin's posts to this thread are from the same California server....

It takes a real USENET/eBay newbie to be dumb enough to use his real name or eBay ID when posting to Usenet groups. Hoskins, you're pathetic.

If you're a typical "seasoned eBay user", I'm obviously not missing anything by not using it.

I've seen numerous factual, knowledgable posts from Steve on the subject of railroading, model and prototype. You, on the other hand...

Hey Mark, But its very important these days to be a "seasoned ebay user". Besides being a "seasoned ebay user" is the pinnacle of prestige obtainable only by the extraordinary few who have aspired to lofty heights of excellence in flea marketing and paying the highest price possible for things very few people in the world would bother to fork over a few nickels for. Several days ago Steve Hoskins posted a lament about individuals forging IDs when posting to this group. Now he's invented a ficticious ID so at least one person would come to his defense when I called "bullshit" about his inaccurate information about eBay's site.

Now Bruce F. comes to his defense claiming Hoskins is a reputable poster while I am not. I now call "bullshit" on Favinger and challenge him to document those "factual, knowledgable posts from Steve on the subject of railroading, model and prototype" And.... show any posts that I ever made that contained inaccurate information.

Steve Hoskins may or may not know a little about Buses. He knows VERY little about N scale and even less about eBay.

If you still believe any of the 'NOT TRUE' eBay "facts" Hoskins posted, ask some other seasoned eBay users which of us is correct. Since 1998 I've bought from or sold to, more than 20,000 model railroad items on eBay or members of this group. I have over 10,000 positive feedbacks on eBay. I keep up-to-date on eBay changes and have MUCH more experience with all aspects of eBay than Steve Hoskins. (and Bruce Favinger)
