possibly this is a stupid question

i have all unlettered steam locomotives that i want to put my own railroad name on. i have the name but what size do i make the artwork ?? as in how high were the letters on most roads? in real life? am doing n scale locomotives. i am not doing anything super fancy was thinking just goldish color letters on the black tenders. all help will be appreciated.

How high are the letters on N-scale tenders that you like the look of?

there's no standard size for the lettering of a railroad...they all have various sizes...in fact, some railroads used various sizes within themselves depending on the type of locomotive, the year produced, etc.
