AOL went that route about 3 years ago. The first thing the moderator did was scrap any message over a week old. The immediate effect was a severe drop-off in message counts. It got the point where there 2-3 messages per day. All questions, no answers. That's when I came here. Yeah, we have flame wars, but at least I can get my questions answered.
