Hornby using coloured plastic again ?

Surprised to see a comment in the latest BRM that the new Hornby A4 in BR green isn't painted, just coloured plastic.

Got to say that looking at the new 08 diesel it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case there too, either that or it's one of the thinnest paint finishes ever!

Doesn't detract from the model though, at least in my opinion.

Tricky, isn't it? Paint generally blurs the finer moulded-in detail but gives (usually) a better patina. I was anti self-coloured for years for that reason, but I've noticed that self-coloured stuff is doing better on that score lately, though, especially on models like the 8F and N2 which are self-coloured black with a very creditable semi-gloss finish, so I guess I'm agreeing with you: it needn't detract from the quality of the model. As long as they get the colour right :-)

I think we need to add 'consistently' between 'colour' and 'right'. :-)

Is there a decent jpeg of the new 08 anywhere? All the ones I've seen so far have been stock images with the detail lost in the shadows.

That was the first place I looked. The pictures are relatively small and obscure detail particularly in the dark areas. I even tried zooming them and increasing the brightness.
