Lima J50 and 94XX

The chassis on the Lima J50 and 94XX locos are pretty poor. Has anyone tried putting the bodies on a Hornby Jinty chassis? Does they fit?

"Poor is gross flattery".

A mate has fitted a Bachmann 57xx chassis to the Lima 94xx, but it involved a good deal of work, and he reckoned that the pi## poor 94xx body wasn't worth the effort.

There's nothing much wrong with the 94xx body, except the splasher locations, and it is very easy to fit to the old Bachmann (split frame) chassis - see

I haven't tried the later chassis design though.

Sorry, I was meaning it looks cheap, nasty & plasticky. Sure with a deal of work it can be made into something, but out of the box the whole Lima jobbie is/was an over-priced toy.

Agreed, but worth a little bit of effort to transform.

Such conversions can be a gentle step towards rebuilding, kit-building and scratch-building! If you happen to have one of each in your junk-box, why not combine them. If the worst happens, you will have a larger collection of smaller pieces in your junk box. At best, you will have a model which will encourage you to get something better and a little more modelling experience :-)
