I thought some list members might be interested, the Harbor Freight autodark helmet is on sale for $49.00.

This model looks like the exact same one I have, and I've been happy with it. It's solar powerd and has the darkness adjustment knob on the outside.

Just so you know, I got one of their cheaper autodark helmets, w/out the knob on the outside, and it was hard to see out of. I'm not sure I could describe why, it wasn't too dark or anything, just not at all "clear".

This one, the more expensive HF helmet (with the knob on the outside) has worked like a champ for me, and I'd reccomend them to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot on a helmet. I've been doing stick welding in class, about four hours at a time, and haven't had any problems with my eyes feeling "burnt" or anything.

I think the only problem I've has has been the head band gets knocked "out of size" easily, but its not a big deal to me.

I forgot to add that HF also has the "Dual MIG Welder 151" (#6271-4VGA) on sale for $199.99. I have one. I haven't used it too much so far, as my welding class has taken up a lot of my extra time, but it's worked well for everything I've wanted to do. It certainly can put a lot of heat into a weld, and works well for around the house kind of stuff.

I bought mine on an impulse--there was a customer who was going on and on about how he's been welding for 20 years and has all sorts of machines, and this is the only one he uses any more. I don't know enough to compare, but it's worked well enough for me, especially considering the price.

You'll need a 220 volt outlet (plus, probably, a heavy extension cord) to use it.

Just thought I'd let the group know...

I have the same welder and it has worked well for me. I'm just do occasional hobby welding so a lower duty cycle doesn't bother me at all. HF also has an extra 10% off coupon running right now so you can get the MIG151 for $189.00. Not a bad deal at all!
