value of hobart betamig 250?

220v, 200-250 amp unit, supposedly used very little, unsure of mfg date.

Anyone take a stab at the value? Considering purchasing, price seems nice. The only 200-250 amp betamig they list on their site (under owner's manuals) is the betamig 2510. Was there ever a specific betamig 250 model?

Is there any reason I would want a newer unit? Anyone know the range of years the betamig's were made by hobart? How does one determine mfg date?

I bought mine in 1995. Great machine, simple to fix, tough as nails, smooth arc.

New they were about $1600. Used in excellent shape, say around $900.

The 2510 was the first Hobart / Miller hybrid. Hobart transformer and power control, and a Miller geared 2 roll wire feeder for positive feed. They were good machines. The machines previous to the Miller takeover were orphaned, but Miller still sells parts for them.

The Hobart machines 300 amps and greater are supported by Thermal Arc now. Smaller machines were put under Miller's control.

If you really need digital readouts, or an easily attached spoolgun then a new Millermatic 251 or Lincoln Powermig 255 would be the choices. If you want the ability to stick weld from your MIG machine, then Panasonic's Gunslinger 260 is the ticket.

They were made from about 1985 to 1996. I believe it is in the serial number somehow.

They are great machines. I still use mine all the time and it does everything I could want in a wire feed. I run 0.035" and 0.045" solid wires, and dual shield wires. I also use it to power my Readywelder spoolun for aluminum work.
