Driving customers around

Did a lockout last night. Quoted fee over the phone, payment upon opening the door, she said "no problem". Got to the house (dump). Young lady (looked like a druggie) said her hand bag was inside. I opened the door, she got her bag, I check I.D. and asked her for payment. She said I would have to drive her to the nearest ATM. Now I really hate letting customers into my van but I wanted to get payment of this very feral looking gutter snipe gal. I drove her to the ATM, she handed less than half of the money to me and said that's all she has in her account, then ran off into the night. I hate getting ripped off. Feral people suck ! Do you guys ever take customers to ATM's in your work vehicles ? I told the missus when I got home and she chewed my ears big time for even letting her in the van. What's a fella spose to do ??

I don't generally drive customers to ATM's in my car at all, i have a rule, proof you own the place before i open the door, no proof no open. I generally ask for the money straight after i pick the lock, but before i turn and disengage the bolt. If they say i dont have the money on me, or say im not paying that, i say "I just opened the lock, payment now or i will lock it and leave" I have actually left on a number of occasions on 1 occasion the guy tried to run up to my car and open my door. He was drunk, and i wasnt going to take any chances. In that situation mate, i wouldnt have opened the door, without proof she could pay.

Yeah, I always ask the customer while taking the job on the phone, how they will be paying for it. She said her purse was inside the house, and payment wasn't a problem, so I had to let her into the house to retrieve it, I got her drivers licence details etc etc, then she springs this ATM sh*t on me. Not often I get caught out after 17 or so years on the job. I'll just chalk it up to experience, and become just a little less trusting. Cheers.

Funny, great minds think alike eh ! I was thinking the same thing as I was standing at her front door waiting for her to find her purse. Ya know, looking around her living room, there would be nothing there worth more than five bucks period. Ya know, in this country, even on government dole or on a pension, people can live pretty comfortably, and have quite reasonable belongings. It looked like she may have hocked all her stuff. Typical though, I noticed the cigarette packs, and empty beer cans strewn around the joint. Down and outers seem to always be able to find the money for smokes and booze.

In the US, add lottery tickets to that list.

Down-and-outers are more likely to be addicted to something since they don't have much left in the way of pleasures.

And addicts are more likely to be down-and-outers, since the addition burns resources they might be able to use to climb back up.

Positive feedback is a dangerous thing.

Does your insurance cover you if an accident occurs while you're transporting someone?

Tow trucks often refuse to accept passengers for just that reason -- they'll offer to call you a taxi instead.

Even if you *are* covered, you may want to quote that excuse... and ask whether they have a neighbor or friend who'd be willing to loan them the money. Even in these days of never speaking to our neighbors, there's generally SOMEONE who can be persuaded...

Steve probably forgot that. Add TAB (parimutuals) tickets too.

Besides, it's usually customers who drive _us_ around... around the bend, that is...

Do you come from the land down under? Where women glow and men plunder?

I'm not sure there is any good answer. At least you did get some money out of it. And didn't get accused of abusing or molestering her. Yes, I've given people rides to the ATM in the van, but I'm not happy about it. I've also unlocked cars and had to follow people to the ATM.

I did that one time with an AM/ FM radio. It wasn't all that good quality. The fellow assured me he'd pay me right off at the end of the week when he got his check. He didn't, and about a year later I figured it was OK to use the radio myself. It served me for several years.

Never did hear back from the guy.

I wonder, though. I can't buy gasoline for the truck or pay the gas and electric unless I have real money. Why should lockouts be any different?

HAHAHA

I have used this one several times myself. Usually though I just lock the door on them. One of them, I've done it twice now, picked it back open. Surprise! I waited until he walked in and held him at gunpoint for the police who arrested him for breaking in my house. LOL People never learn. When I want something for free I get it.

If you could manage to keep your hands to yourself you wouldn't keep getting accused of it anymore either.

I would just peel out on ya.
