DRO problem

Mar 15, 2008 2 Replies

After years of faithful service the X scale on my mill has stopped counting. I've swapped the X and Y connections on the read out and it is the scale that is faulty. I think one of the quadrature outputs is not working as the display just flickers from 0.00 to 0.01mm as the table is moved over large distance It it a heidenhain LS308 scale which does not appear in the current online catalogue. Are these repairable? and are replacements available?

Any guidance would be most welcome

TIA

Bob

Bob,

Just had the same thing happen to me on a similar system. In my case it got onto a part of the scale it's not been on for ages and left the reader head behind. That finished up pulling the wires out and snapping the 4 rubber pillars that hold the reader .

I dare say it would have repaired given some care but I bit the bullet and bought a new 3 axis unit from Onyx

That leaves me with two scales and a reader head off a Bridgeport. The X is broken, the Y has been repaired but the reader could be swapped over and the head is OK.

I was going to list this on Ebay as a head with free scales due to condition but if you want to make me an offer I'm open to that.

John, Please could you confirm the type numbers of the scales you have and that of the display unit. TIA

Bob
