1/32 F-105 Landing Gear (Undercarriage) Set

This set looks to be white metal without much detail -- at least not at the level I'd expect to see in this scale. My impression of the Cutting Edge brass landing gear for other models is that the level of detail is much better.

I'm curious as to opinions about the value of buying the Aeroclub white metal gear or should I wait and hope that Metor Productions will market a Cutting Edge brand of brass landing gear for this beast.

TIA

The level of detail on the Aeroclub gear looks fine to me. The primary force behind the making of the gear seems to me to be increased structural strength, not improved detail. Other than adding brake lines, I'm not sure what else you would need.

Regarding waiting for Teknics brass gear, my first thought is that there is nothing that indicates if Meteor is even planning to make a set of gear for the kit, much less when it would come out. You might be hoping and waiting a long time. My second thought is brass is softer that the metal used in the Aeroclub gear. Personally, I'd rather have as stong a gear as possible for a kit of this size and weight.

Of course, if you want to have real authenticity and are planning on doing a model of the first 50 or earlier thuds, then it would be better to go with spindly & weak landing gear. The early 105's had notorious landing gear problems. First they wouldn't come down on landing -- fixed that problem -- but then the plane had a notorious way of taxi-ing -- sort of swaying its ass as it went down the tarmac. Also hopped a bit from one leg to the other. Almost killed the contract -- what with detractors saying "Here comes the 105, swishing down the runway!"

I would also think that you could remove and ot the non-structural plastic detalis required from th plastic gear and transplant them to the metal gear with CA if you thought it necessary.

And I'd think that the brass gear would be stronger, unless the white metal is wire reinforced...but I agree - they need to be strong as possible for this particular kit; particularly the G.

The kit gear contains no more detail than the Aeroclub parts. In fact, it appears that the Aeroclub gear may simply be a straight copy of the kit gear in metal.

BTW, this isn't the "soft" white metal. It is quite hard, harder than some of the other Teknics sets I have.

But hey, if you really want brass gear, just put the kit on hold and hope that Teknics someday comes out with some.

The gear are simple enough that I was actually thinking of scratch building a set of my own...that'd be a sure-fire way to get Teknics to do a set...

And when are we going to get the cockpit set for the G from Black Box?..and more etch from Eduard?
