Reading the B-29 thread, and based on my own experience, I wonder why some of the aftermarket vendors couldn't make parts for building kits with the gear up and the bombay doors closed? I prefer gear up models for both aesthetic and practical reasons (mine hang from the ceiling). Some kits build just fine with the gear retracted but others require way too much work and the result is never entirely satisfactory.

I doubt that there's enough demand. Most modelers prefer to build aircraft sitting on their landing gear.
I feel your pain! I like to build a/c in flight too and you're absolutely right about gear doors often not fitting well in the closed position. Makes me think that either the gear well or the doors must be inaccurate...
Then there are those few kits that were moulded with gear doors in the 'down' position.

These days they're known as mumbai doors... ;-)
I'd always thought that was a practice restricted to only the oldest kits. But then I saw the Academy F-8! Not that I'm complaining though... it's a wonderful kit.
