If, by "large scale" you mean 1/16th scale (120mm-ish) or larger...the series by Dragon/DML is excellent, and relatively inexpensive. The talent-level of the sculptor is *very* important. Many of the Dragon figures feature heads which are pantographed from masters sculpted by Mike Good...probably the *best* sculptor in the hobby. No matter how good a figure kit is...if the head is non-lifelike (a trait far more common in figure castings than we at first notice...), then the best paint job in the world won't improve it...nor will it serve as a useful tool from which to learn. The same applies for the hands. And even the *best* of the injected molded plastic figures...pale in quality compared to the upper tier of resin and metal castings.

See if you can scrape up some Kirin or Jaguar resin figures sculpted by Mike Good; or some larger-scale Warriors figures sculpted by John Rosengrant.

Most of the larger scale metal castings by Miniatures Andrea, or Pegaso (though pricey) are also excellent to learn on. And if you can track some down...never refuse anything from Poste Militaire.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's not what I'm interested in. Given the large amount of converting that I usually do, the less details to Dremel away, the better; and football players would have bare legs and arms so anatomy would not be left to my own skills.
