Best matte spray?

Aeromaster flatcote - which you can't get anymore, but I have been told is the same as Floquil Figure Flat. Flattest flat-cote I've ever encountered...DEAD flat...if you over do it, it can frost up on you in places...but it's great stuff.

I've seen it in spray cans, but not recently in my usual hobby haunts.

I'll look into it. Thanks. Gee...a flat coat that not only gives a really good flat, but might prove useful doing winter dioramas. :-)

Yep, Rufus has you covered with Floquil's Figure Flat as one of the best. The other I use is a ceramics spray called Porcelain Mist. It is just as flat as Floquil's.

As for water in dios, artist gel medium works great for most ponds or streams. If you are looking to get more than 1/4-1/2" depth, try Envirotech, found at craft stores. It is a 2 part product similar to clear casting resin

You can get a Paasche "H" model airbrush for like $35. And rent a tank of CO2 from a welding supply store for very cheap as well. Get an airbrush setup. Your quality will improve trmendously.
