Booked my coach ticket to Germany, but whats in Berlin worth seeings?

Hey guys. booked my coach there, leave London next Tue and get there Wed.

My chick has to work in the week, so i have Thur and Fri free. I will spend a day in Berlin and one in Poland. Any things of interest? Not botherd about model shops etc as i dont have any cash at all but wonderd if there are museums etc. Also do they do cripple discounts like places in the UK? im taking my EU cripple free parking badge anyway.

How i get back to the UK i dont know, i got a one way ticket, last time i did that was around 91 and ended up living in Tenerife for a while..........

Im going again in Sept when shes off work so will have more time then.

Well, you could always stop by Sroda where my father was born and raised. As I understand it the church still has the Swedish cannonball lodged in the wall. :)

In Berlin go to the Reichstag building. They have restored it as the place of gov't now I think.

But just so they won't forget, there are places in the building where the graffitti from Soviet soldiers is still there.

OK, now you owe me a screen cleaning. :]

The cannonball was 'installed' back around 1655. Although I might have disagreed when I was a teenager, my father wasn't born at that time. ;)

Nope, never been off this continent. Funny, the last time some of the cousins came over here for a visit, cheap booze and cigarettes were all they were interested in. And you'd better not be looking for any cheap women! ;)

Nevermind - my viewer somehow separated this thread from the main thread. Duh!

You could always visit Auschwitz (Oswiencim). I also enjoyed visiting the old Wieliczka salt mine near Krakow. Assuming that it is still open to visitors (I was there in the 70s).

Some of my mates went this year, to play football with a similar team of middle-aged businessmen who like footie and drinking beer.

They visited the Holocaust Memorial, which they all said -- strangely, considering their backgrounds -- they found deeply moving. (I would not have guessed many of these guys would be capable of being "moved"!)

The memorial is simply concrete blocks: this picture of it being built actually shows it near completion:

However, an explanation for the stunning success of the memorial is probably this, from the architect himself

Yes i can give the women a miss this time. It seems cigs are a fith of UK price or better. Anetts brother is collecting me from the station on orders from his mother. I only have 2 days of freedom alone this trip so i want to sample local spirits. Im not a beer drinker, cant stand it.

Discounts may vary; if I recall correctly, the cripple pays normal, but whoever is along helping him/her gets in very cheap of for free. You should certainly bring the parking badge, it will help getting a parking spot closer to wherever you're going.

This is for Germany; I've never been to Poland.

I came accross a website that told me what to write on a note in German to stick with my blue badge. My UK coach is half price due to that. There is something that looks like Polish but im not 100% sure.

I guess once im over the border im just looking for the nearest pub. Maybe a bit of wildlife too.

One of my personal favs is "Gods Revenge"

Rumor has it the people of Berlin were given a choice of a new TV tower or a new Church....they took the TV tower. To this day the reflection of the cross is seen on the sphere!
