Can anyone help determine the color of the high visibility patches on this P5M-2 Marlin?

Interesting shot. Although it says VP-3X on the fuselage the tail code looks to be that for VR-1 (According to my Monogram USN and USMC Aircraft color guide vol3 1950-59) Of course that could have been an earlier designation. Regardless, to answer your question I think the float panels look a bit darker and looking at photo's in the book of other his vis schemes I think the nose, tail and wingtips are yellow and the wingtip floats are orange. Offical colors are International Orange FS 22246 and Orange Yellow FS 13538

It's not even close to the red in the stripes of the national insignia. My best guess is that it's orange.

Nothing authoritative or scientific, but it has that uneven faded look of old Day-glo Orange.

Thanks for the help. In the mean time I got a color version of the same photo, and it is indeed international orange.

Thanks everyone for your help.
