I hope that this was merely an attempt at humour (humor in the US). I would expect that we could show some respect for people who are communicating with the group in English (or American, Canadian or Australian) when this is not their first language (or languages).

Our society seems to have a fear of deprecating humor, "self" or other. A coworker told me a tale, of an experience he had years ago, applying for a job with the Federal Government (Park Service, as his degree is in Forestry). During an interview he was asked: "Do you find humorous; jokes that make fun of certain people, places, things, or situations?"

His reply: "Gee...if it doesn't make fun of certain people, places, things, or situations...then it doesn't meet the definition of a joke, now does it?"

For some reason...he did not get the job...

Hardly an aggressive come back compared to the anti-French sentiments often posted here! I'm surprised at the negative comments from such a tongue in cheek comment.

My schoolboy French was so long ago I could barely ask "What hour is this" these days.
