One was a review of the Dragon Rapide. The Heller kit had come out, probably hurting his sales no end. I had suggested in print that modelers get his kit anyhow in order to give him a boost.

Kind of like complimenting a schoolyard bully on the good quality of his firm and getting blacklisted for one's efforts. :-)

Probably not as all of the kits marketed by Veeday have been supplanted by finer quality kits n either Cast resin or injection molded.

Of all the miserably distorted plastic blob Merlin packages that I was dumb enough to buy, the best of the lot is the Westland Wapiti. With an Aeroclub engine and substantial donations from a Frog Wallace, there's enough there to make a pretty nice Wapiti. I will get on that project one of these days just to be able to enter a 'Merlin' model in a contest.

I never built a Veeday/Merlin/Valhalla biplane, but I have done a few of their monoplanes. At least with a mono, you can glue the thing together, slather Milliput where needed, and start filing. Dealing with aligning struts and wings from a mainstream biplane kit is enough of a pain. I can't imagine tackling it in one of them. Kim M

After hearing over and over how Merlin was the worst ever,I finally found their DH5.The only negative about it was the slight amount of flash on the wings.I had it painted and built in a day and finished the decals and little details,and placed it on the shelf the next day.It was one of the easiest biplanes I ever did and looks fine. I usually find Roden biplanes harder,with their brittle,almost-to-scale struts breaking on me. Now...a Starfix biplane..yum...that would be a nice one...
