Why is this? You can, after all, attend an IPMS UK branch meeting if you're not an IPMS member as long as that branch has at least 5 current IPMS members.

There have to be some elements of IPMS that are IPMS-only ... or why have an IPMS at all? If IPMS cannot attract members by offering member-only benefits, then it's 'goodbye IPMS and no Nationals'. However, people are perfectly able to set up interest groups of their own. The Jackal Squadron is one, as is the SOGGIES/TOGGIES.

When I wrote my message, I did not wish create a debate. I had not simply seen (and do not see moreover always) the logo of the IMPS on the page of this SIG.

On the other hand, it adorned to me a pity to cut the members of the IPMS of the other modellers. I am myself the former member of IPMS France which I left down for a very for a long time because I had an unpleasant sensation of club elitist and contemptuous towards the others "eaters of plastic" but it is your problem, not mine.

For example, it happened that documents came to members of the IMPS from "non IPMS clubs and the IPMS wanted then to have the exclusivity of it!

However, it would be certainly interressant that the IPMS asks a simple question: " why it created so much club dissidants of the IPMS? " Answer would be very interesting nevertheless certainly. This question should moreover be asked by the leaders of all the sections IMPS, not only in UK IMHO.

The reason i want join again(just run out) is that i have to send a SAE with my 20quid, i expect to get my card out of the fee, like i do with my card club etc, send write out a envelope and stick a stamp to get it back.

I am in many clubs, and each one sends me thecard and envelope, stamp out of my membership, its the principle, yes i now how long it takes, but any decent club has your name on a puter and prints out a lable in seconds.

I dont see why i should pay a fee, and then pay for my own stamp to get the card.

As someone who regularly helps run large events (mainly Scout camps etc), I must say that I wouldn't touch the running of the IPMS Nats if I also had to pay for the accommodation. If I was to give up around a week of my time to run something I wasn't getting paid for but was being enjoyed by hundreds of others I would expect something in return, if that means free b&b then so be it.

Very true. As I didn't have to pay for entry this year I will consider renewing my membership more than if I'd had to pay *as well as being a member*. Still not sure if it's worth the £20 though.

Since I was the initial poster, i will comment. This is not my decision, but IPMS, I have to agree with several other posters that it would be a way of introducing new members but there again IPMS members should have priviligies. I am also a member of other groups which have the same policies and they succeed. What it all comes down too is the simple fact is percieved value for money, should the IPMS commitee be thinking of how to improve this notion. The RAF SIG will be there for IPMS members who are interested in that genre, i will keep an eye on it and if it seems that it is affecting the membership then i will discuss it with the other original start up members about opening it out. But going by other yahoo groups dealing with anything RAF there will not be much in the way of correspondance as people want something for nothing now. A very sad fact of the internet...

Also, the committee HAVE to be there at 8am until 8pm on the Friday, 7 am until 8 pm on the Saturday and 7 am until 9-10pm on the Sunday. Some branches, including those in places like Lancashire, drive down for both days and take no accomodation. This just isn't an option for a committee member. From myh own perspective, I worked so hard on the Friday that I damaged by knee (chondromalacia) and couldn't drive my car until mid way through Saturday.

Th committee is fully aware of the problem, and there are three new members this year, and hence three more heads of ideas. Already we are looking at redefining the role of the society in the Internet age (it has made a BIG difference to what is essentially a niche hobby) and we should see some more activities better targetted at member support this year.
