OT: Can Future fix scratched audio CDs?

Sorry for being a bit OT, but this group seems to have a lot of experience with alternate uses for Future :-)

I have an audio CD that has some scratches deep enough that the CD player can't track properly.

I have seen several CD-repair kits that cost $10 and up. But I'm wondering if good ol' Future can rescue my CD?

I suppose some plastic polish (like Novus, used to polish out clear model parts) could also help.

Does anybody have any experience using modeling supplies to fix CDs?

Thanks, David Bono

no, don't use future. use the spray can version of lemon pledge. spray on a coating, wait a moment and then wipe ACRODD the tracks. not in a circle. wipe until dry. this will fix 90% of the fixable cd problems. if you can, copy the cd first thing. then use the copies. there is a free program called aec for audio discs. DO NOT USE FUTURE!

no, aside from the fact it wears off with water, it will distort. you can take light scratches off with brasso.if you have plastic lens. some optometrists will remove light scratches from glass. most won't. ymmv.

Wow....confusing your reply is...top-posting...your response...is the because....of...

For a excellent freeware and opensource all-in-one CD burning application, nothing beats "cdrecord". Long a standard on UNIX and Linux platforms, it has been ported to Windows:

And here is the original homepage for "cdrecord":

I believe that's EAC (short for Exact Audio Copy). You can find the latest version at

Most people use it as a front-end to MP3 encoding software (like LAME).

You can find more information about EAC and LAME at the Hydrogen Audio Wiki:
