SAAF Dakota Target Tug

There is a color photo of this AC in the book "A Celebration of DC-3's", by Arthur Percy, on page 114.

The upper fuselage is white. At the line from the horizontal stabs, to the center of the cockpit windows, there is a blue (possibly faded black) cheatline. The *entire* lower fuselage, as well as the underside of the wings, is in the diagonal yellow and black stripes. The upper surfaces of the wings are probably this as well, because the engine nacelles definitely are. The horizontal stabs look as if they may be solid black. The tail, looks to be in a two-tone gray: The main part being a light greenish gray (think of a grayed-out British "sky"); and the rudder appears to be a typical light gray. There is a dark blue (or black) band on the upper part of the tail, with the numbers "77" directly underneath the band. There is a tri-color fin flash on the tail (Interestingly, the central "white" panel of this fin flash, is actually the same "grayed out Sky" as the rest of this part of the tail). And (on the underside of the wings, at least), a large "6877" is painted adjacent to the SAAF insignia. This AC has the astrodome, but it does *not* have the anti-collision beacon on the tail. There are also a lot of additional antennae all over it.

It was delivered to the SAAF, and repainted in this scheme, in 1960.
