File Type Association Problems

I installed 2.1 the same way and haven't had a problem although I have AutoCad on my system. Right click on one of the files and select properties. In the properties window toward the top it says Opens with: Adobe Illustrator (Change) hit change and you can select the program you want to open it with. This will change the file association for all the files with the same extension.

Hold down shift ...rmb file...select >open with< ....>choose program OS - Win XP Pro

Works without the Shift too atleast on XP it does.

Nope, that doesn't work either. That brings up the same window as going through Folder Options. Neither SW or eDrawings is available in the list of available programs (browsing for the program doesn't change it either). I may need to reinstall SolidWorks.

Is there a place in the registry that could be edited?

I had a strange behaviour in the window for adding / deleting programs on my XP machine and one of my colleagues had the same on his. When I reached the the window with all programs ......only a few programs show up...but if I moved the slider to the right downwards.....far down in this window there's another heap of programs .....with a huge gap between the two "groups"

We also see that gap here on some XP machines - I think it's always after ACAD 2000i.

I just tried it here and it worked just fine. I did a RMB on a .dwg file, open with/choose program/browse/SolidWorks2004\eDrawings\EModelViewer.exe. Checked the box to always use that file and it continued to work.

I have had to do this too. It seems XP doesn't regester programs like I had hoped it would. I assumed that if you didn't see it in the list you would browse for it. If I am unsure of where a program is in the list I find it's shortcut in the start menu and RMB and copy the link and paste it in the file name in the browse dialogue.

Really funny....now I have three groups in that list ...the first gap start after AutoCAD LT 2002 and the second one after DriveWorksXpress...and if I click on any of those two, the whole gap between the groups is blue marked.
